SoundExchange’s Michael Huppe: ‘All players in the industry, creators or platforms, have to rethink how they work together’

Michael Huppe, CEO of US neighbouring rights society SoundExchange, has warned the music industry to prepare for a world that "will not be the same after the pandemic."

In his keynote address at the virtual Canadian Music Week conference, Huppe said that in the past 15 months, the industry has been "navigating the crisis that is the pandemic," but there are now "glimpses of what life will look like past the pandemic."

CISAC elects Kazuhiko Fukuoji and Ángeles González-Sinde Reig as Vice-Presidents

Japanese painter Kazuhiko Fukuoji and Spanish screenwriter, director, illustrator, and children’s author Ángeles González-Sinde Reig have been elected Vice-Presidents of CISAC, the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers.

The two creators were elected by the CISAC General Assembly, held in Mexico City on 1 June. They replace Chinese film director Jia Zhang-Ke and Spanish visual artist Miquel Barceló who did not seek re-election.

Over 100 CISAC members gather in Mexico for the organisation’s General Assembly

Over 100 authors societies from five continents will convene in Mexico on June 1 for the General Assembly of CISAC, the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers. MCPS distributed £188.4 million in 2022

The British Mechanical-Copyright Protection Society-MCPS has distributed £188.4 million (€216.8m) to its members in 2022, a 3.6% rise from 2021 (or up £6.7m). The London-based society said it was the highest distribution since 2007 and the fourth consecutive year in growing distributions.
