European Commission officially launches €2.5bn Creative Europe programme

European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth Mariya Gabriel (pictured, above) launched on June 17 in Lisbon the Creative Europe 2021-2027 programme that will provide the European creative sector with an injection of EUR2.5 billion over the next seven year.

Meta threatens to pull out news content in California after the State Assembly passed the California Journalism Preservation Act

The California State Assembly has passed the California Journalism Preservation Act (CJPA) in a floor vote of 46-6. The bill would require platforms, reaching at least 50 million US-based users, "to remit a journalism usage fee payment to each eligible digital journalism provider."

Court in Sofia orders three ISPs to block access to The Pirate Bay and Zamunda

A City Court in Sofia ruled on 31 May 2023 that three ISPs in Bulgaria have to block access to BitTorrent site The Pirate Bay, local site Zamunda and all subsequent mirror sites, sub-domains and proxy sites.

British music industry reacts positively to the IPO-coordinated agreement introducing a voluntary pan-industry code on metadata

The representatives from the various segments of the British music sector have welcomed the Metadata Agreement announced on May 31 by the Intellectual property Office.
