SOCAN distributions in 2020 were up 10% year-on-year to CA$348m despite a 4% drop in collections

Canadian rights society SOCAN has distributed over CA$348 million in royalties to the company’s 175,000 members (music creators, publishers, and visual artists) in 2020, a 10% increase over the previous year.

Collections reached CA$391m in 2020, a 4% decrease from 2019, which SOCAN described as "considerably less than many other major music rights collectives worldwide."

SCPP distributed €86m in 2021, up 6% compared to 2020

French neighbouring rights society SCPP has reported total collections of €76.3 million in 2021, down by 3.6% compared to 2020 (€79.1m) and down 13.7% compared to 2019 (€88.4m), before the pandemic. SCPP represents the owners of sound recordings, including the three majors companies — Sony Music Entertainment France, Universal Music France and Warner Music France — and some 4,000 independent labels.

Merlin partners with Lickd to provide pre-cleared music to YouTube creators
