Usenet’s indexing site Newzbin.org has shut down following pressure from Dutch anti-piracy group BREIN

The Netherlands' piracy watchdog BREIN has revealed that Dutch site Newzbin.org, described as an indexing sites for illegal files on Usenet, has decided to shut down on August 24.

A sign on the site read: "Newzbin is gestopt" (Newzbin has stopped). The decision to cease operations was taken and announced by the administrators of the site who remain anonymous.

Independent label +1 Records has signed a strategic, global partnership with Exceleration Music, the structure dedicated to enhancing the future of independent music.

US Justice Department starts legal action against Google for alleged anticompetitive behaviour in the digital advertising market

The US Justice Department — alongside eight States — have filed a civil antitrust lawsuit against Google, accusing the Alphabet-owned company of "monopolising multiple digital advertising technology products in violation of Sections 1 and 2 of the Sherman Act."

The suit — in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia — alleges that through serial acquisitions and anticompetitive auction manipulation, Google "subverted competition in Internet advertising technologies."

John Asein renewed for four years at the helm of the Nigerian Copyright Commission

Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari has renewed the mandate of John Asein as Director General of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC). Asein will serve for another final four-year term, in accordance with the Nigerian Copyright Commission Act.

NCC is the government agency responsible for all copyright matters in Nigeria, including the administration, regulation, promotion, enforcement and prosecution of copyright.
