BBC renews licensing agreement with PRS for Music for five years

British rights society PRS for Music has renewed for five years its music license agreement with UK's public broadcaster the BBC. The new deal covers the BBC’s full suite of services including, television, radio, iPlayer, and Sounds in the UK, as well as BBC World Service and BBC Studios internationally.

Rights societies around the world have been hit in 2020 "by a seismic drop in revenues due to the crisis," according to Marcelo Castello Branco, Chair of the Board of the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC), which has reported that global collections were down 9.9% in 2020 compared to the previous year, dropping from €10.35 billion in 2019 to €9.32bn.
