UK Music report shows the devastating effect of the Covid pandemic on the British music sector

The Covid crisis has had devastating consequences on the British music sector, according to a new set of figures released by trade organisation UK Music.
In its This Is Music 2021 annual report, UK Music reveals that the crisis cost the industry 69,000 jobs — 35% down from 197,000 in 2019 to 128,000 in 2020 — and that music industry’s contribution to the economy fell 46% from £5.8bn to £3.1bn in 2020. In addition, music exports dropped 23% from £2.9 billion in 2019 to £2.3 billion in 2020.

Dutch independent music company Armada Music has acquired the rights to the entire recording catalogue of British singer, songwriter, and DJ Sonique. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Manchester-based trio GoGo Penguin have signed an exclusive global publishing agreement with Campbell Connelly & Co, a company part of Wise Music Group. The deal includes past and future works.
