French court finds stream-ripping site Mpgun.com guilty of infringement after legal action from SCPP

A French court has found the operator of stream-ripping site Mpgun.com guilty of copyright infringement, following legal action initiated by neighbouring rights society SCPP.

SUISA Digital slaps Snapchat with a copyright infringement lawsuit in Hamburg

SUISA Digital — a Liechtenstein-based subsidiary of Swiss rights society SUISA — is suing short format platform Snapchat for copyright infringement.

SUISA said Snapchat "refuses" to pay authors and publishers for music represented by the music licensing organisation and used in videos on the Snapchat platform. As a result, SUISA Digital filed a lawsuit against Snapchat parent company Snap Inc. for copyright infringement in the Hamburg District Court.

Appeals court in California affirms Toni Basil is the sole author of the song ‘Mickey’

United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in California has affirmed a previous ruling stating that Antonia Basilotta, known as Toni Basil, has full authorship of the song 'Disney'.

British company Stillwater had filed in District Court an action against Basilotta, seeking a declaratory judgment about her ownership of copyrights in certain sound recordings. Stillwater claimed that the producer on the track, Greg Mathieson had a right to co-authorship of the song.

NetEase’s Cloud Music sued Tencent Music Entertainment for ‘unfair competition’

Tencent Music Entertainment — China's largest music streaming company — has been sued by rival NetEase's Cloud Music for unfair competition and plagiarising of its app design, according to a Reuters report.
