Six takeaways from IFPI’s global report

IFPI, the London-based global recorded music trade organisation, unveiled this week the market figures for 2021, and the report card was the best in years, with global revenues increasing by 18.5% year-over-year to $25.9 billion (see story here).

ORCA report finds indie labels generate ‘tangible value and income for artists’

A report based on data from nine prominent independent labels found that independent recorded music companies generate "tangible value and income for artists through long-term partnerships and investment." In 2023, the participating labels generated $239 million in revenue, with 33.5% ($79.9m) distributed to artists. That investment supported the careers of 569 artists across genres and geographies.

Armada Music acquires the rights to Sonique’s entire recording catalogue

Dutch independent music company Armada Music has acquired the rights to the entire recording catalogue of British singer, songwriter, and DJ Sonique. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
