4.55 billion people in the world will have access to the internet at the end of 2022

There will be 4.55 billion internet users in the world by the end of 2022, up 2.6% over 2021, according to projections from eMarketer. This amounts to 57.4% of the general population (including all ages).
eMarketer notes that the growth rate is slowing down after a 7.7% boost in internet penetration in 2020, linked mostly to the Covid pandemic and the increasing number of people who worked from home. "As internet use has saturated, growth has slowed," explained eMarketer.
