Delhi High Court appoints expert to assist in the issue of fair use and fair dealing of sound recordings in weddings

Justice Pratibha M Singh of the Delhi High Court has appointed Dr. Arul George Scaria as an expert to assist the court in the issue of fair use and fair dealing of sound recordings in marriage ceremonies and weddings.

Dr Scaria is an Associate Professor of Law and Co-Director of the Centre for Innovation, Intellectual Property and Competition (CIIPC). He will be asked to help the court interpret sec. 52(1)(za) of the Copyright Act, 1957.

Dutch artist and producer Dennis Stehr, a.k.a. Mr. Probz, and his company Left Lane B.V. have accused Sony Music Entertainment (SME) and its subsidiary Ultra Records of withholding royalties for years in a summons filed in Amsterdam.

Stehr and Left Lane signed a license agreement with SME and Ultra in 2013. The agreement included an ’at source’ provision. The lawsuit states that SME deducted administration and distribution fees from Stehr's royalties as they were passed through the company'...

Netflix drops lawsuit against the creators of ‘The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical’

Netflix has filed in federal district court documents confirming that it has dropped its copyright lawsuit against the creators of 'The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical'. The two parties have reached a settlement, the terms of which have not been disclosed.

The filing states that the case has been dismissed "with prejudice," which means that it cannot be brought again, according to Reuters, citing a person familiar with the matter.

Timbaland and Swizz Beatz settled $28m lawsuit with Triller over ‘Verzuz’

Timbaland and Swizz Beatz have settled their lawsuit with the social video platform Triller over Verzuz, the livestreaming platform they launched in 2020 and sold to Triller a year later for an undisclosed amount. Details of the settlement were not disclosed.

When Timbaland and Swizz Beats sold Verzuz, they became shareholders in Triller. At the time, they said the acquisition was “a momentous occasion not only for Verzuz and Triller but the music business as a whole.”
