France’s SACEM posted collections of €1.05bn in 2021, up 7% compared to 2020

SACEM collections reached €1.05 billion in 2021, up +7% compared with €988.5m in 2020, thanks to a strong growth in digital revenues, offsetting drops in broadcasting and general rights. However, collections remain 6% lower than in 2019 (€1.12bn).

SoundExchange files a lawsuit against Slacker for failing to pay statutory royalties

US music rights society SoundExchange has filed suit in the United States District Court for the Central District of California against digital media company Slacker, Inc. and its parent company LiveOne, Inc. "to recover unpaid royalties owed to performers and rights owners."

SoundExchange said Slacker operates under the statutory license for the use of sound recordings on digital radio but the service stopped paying statutory royalties in 2017.

SACEM and M6 Group sign new agreement

French rights society SACEM and broadcaster M6 Group have signed a new agreement relating to the use of works from SACEM's repertoire on all M6 Group channels and services. This five-year agreement will be coming into force retroactively from January 1, 2022.

M6 Group includes TV channels such as M6, Gulli, W9, 6ter, M6 Music, MCM, among others, as well as radio stations RTL, RTL2 and Fun Radio, and a wide range of digital services.
