SoundExchange files a lawsuit against Slacker for failing to pay statutory royalties

US music rights society SoundExchange has filed suit in the United States District Court for the Central District of California against digital media company Slacker, Inc. and its parent company LiveOne, Inc. "to recover unpaid royalties owed to performers and rights owners."

SoundExchange said Slacker operates under the statutory license for the use of sound recordings on digital radio but the service stopped paying statutory royalties in 2017.

The Mechanical Licensing Collective (The MLC) has issued its first annual report since its launch on January 1, 2021. The MLC was created by the Music Modernisation Act of 2018 to license and administer online mechanical rights on behalf of songwriters and music publishers.

Deepak Mohite promoted to Chief Technology Officer at ASCAP

US rights organisation American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) has promoted Deepak Mohite to Chief Technology Officer (CTO).

In his new position, he reports jointly to ASCAP Chief Executive Officer Elizabeth Matthews and to ASCAP EVP and Chief Operating Officer (COO) Brian Roberts. DACS distributed £17.2 million in royalties to 79,000 visual artists and estates in 2021

The UK’s Design & Artist Copyright Society (DACS) has distributed £17.2 million in royalties to 79,000 artists and estates in 2021, according to the visual arts collective management organisation's latest Annual Review.
