David P. Shaw replaces Suzanne Barnett as the new chief copyright royalty judge and head of the Copyright Royalty Board

Judge David P. Shaw has been selected as the new chief copyright royalty judge and head of the Copyright Royalty Board by Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden. Shaw will serve on the Copyright Royalty Board alongside Judge David Strickler and Judge Steve Ruwe.

Shaw will be replacing Chief Judge Suzanne Barnett who returned from retirement on Nov. 8, 2021, to serve as interim chief copyright royalty judge. Barnett previously served as the Chief Copyright Royalty Judge from 2012 until her retir...

US House of Representatives passes the TICKET Act to regulate concert ticket prices

The United States House of Representatives passed the Transparency In Charges for Key Events Ticketing Act or TICKET Act, which will "require sellers of event tickets to disclose comprehensive information to consumers about ticket prices and related fees, and for other purposes."

NMPA calls on Spotify to remove all unlicensed lyrics, music videos, and podcasts from the streaming platform

The National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) has sent a cease-and-desist letter to Spotify on May 15 requesting that the streaming service removes unlicensed music files that allegedly infringe upon its members' copyrights.
