European Commission confirms Article 18 of the Copyright Directive can take the form of an unwaivable remuneration right

The European Commission has confirmed that Article 18 of 2019's Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market could be transposed by Member States "through an unwaivable remuneration right provided that this complies with relevant EU law, including the principle of contractual freedom, fair balance of rights and interests, and the exclusive rights in the copyright acquis."

The statement from the Commission does clarify the scope of Article 18 but also brings some explicit limitations. ...
