French broadcasters TF1 and M6 put an end to their proposed merger

Bouygues, the parent company of French Groupe TF1 and Bertelsmann-owned Groupe M6 and RTL Group — France's two largest commercial broadcasters — have announced today that they have decided to "call off" their plan to merge the TF1 and M6 groups.

EU’s AI Act has entered into force on July 12

The Official Journal of the European Union has published on July 12, 2024, the EU Artificial Intelligence Act, known as the AI Act. The regulation, which aims at harmonising rules on AI models and systems across the EU, is now the law of the Union.

Ursula von der Leyen re-elected European Commission President for a five-year term

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was elected for a second term on July 18 by the European Parliament n a secret ballot. The outgoing President received 401 votes in her favour, 41 more than the majority of 360 votes, 284 against and 22 blank or invalid votes.

This will be von der Leyen’s second term as Commission President. She was first elected by MEPs in July 2019. She previously served as Defence Minister in Germany.
