Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) confirms MCSN as the sole CMO for music works and sound recordings

The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) has confirmed that the Musical Copyright Society of Nigeria (MCSN) has the right to operate as the only collective management organisation (CMO) for the licensing of music and sound recordings.

MCSN has been operating with its status challenged by the Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON). Both societies said they were they were the only legal CMOs operating in Nigeria.

The UK’s PPL collected a record £283.5 million in 2023, up 4% over 2022

British neighbouring rights society PPL has collected £283.5 million (€331.25m) in 2023 from the usage of sound recordings in public spaces and media, up 4% or £10.9m on 2022. PPL said it was the highest level of income in the 90-year history of the London-based society.
