Will Page report values music copyright at $39.6 billion in 2021, up 18% year-on-year

The music copyright industry was worth $39.6 billion in 2021, up 18% from 2020 figures, according to calculations from economist Will Page in his yearly overview of the music sector. "The post-pandemic fallout has seen consumer subscriptions and ad-funded streaming continue to soar, whereas business-to-business licensing by CMOs has only partially recovered," explained Page, who noted the "explosive growth" in label revenues from streaming and the annual growth of the songwriter CMOs’ collection...
