France’s movie theaters enjoyed a 59.2% rise in attendance in 2022 to 152 million

The number of movie tickets sold in France in 2022 reached 152 million, up 59.2% compared to 2021 (94.5 million) but still down 26.9% compared to pre-COVID years (2017-19), according to French cinema organisation the CNC.

The CNC said 2022 was "an atypical year, with on the one hand health restrictions, which were not completely lifted until March, and on the other hand a promising film offer which was not yet equivalent to that of the pre-COVID years before."

Sony Music Publishing Nashville and Droptine Music Publishing have partnered to sign country songwriters and performers Russell Sutton and Tommy Karlas to global publishing deals.

Sutton has penned songs such as his his first No.1 single 'My Boy' by Elvie Shane and 'Whiskey On You' by Nate Smith. Karlas has written songs for artists including Blake Shelton, Warren Zeiders, Old Dominion, Randy Travis, and Montgomery Gentry. He released his debut songwriter album entitled 'Put It In Drive'.

BMI promotes a group of executives from within its creative team

US music rights society Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) has announced a series of promotions within the company’s Creative team.

Rafael Martinez has been appointed to newly created roles as Vice President, Strategy and Business Affairs, Creative. Based in New York, he reports to BMI’s Executive Vice President, Creative and Licensing, Mike Steinberg. Martinez joined BMI in 2014 as a Director of Business Affairs and was promoted to Assistant Vice President, Business Affairs and Creative in 2019.
