India’s government merged on January 1 four film organisations into the National Films Development Corporation

On January 1, 2023, India's Films Division (FD), the Children’s Film Society of India, the Directorate of Film Festivals and the National Film Archive of India have been merged with the National Films Development Corporation (NFDC).

The activities of the four film organisation have been transferred to NFDC. The combination of all these entities was initially decided in December 2020 and affects some 300 employees.

Meta threatens to pull out news content in California after the State Assembly passed the California Journalism Preservation Act

The California State Assembly has passed the California Journalism Preservation Act (CJPA) in a floor vote of 46-6. The bill would require platforms, reaching at least 50 million US-based users, "to remit a journalism usage fee payment to each eligible digital journalism provider."

The bill — sponsored by California Assemblywoman Buffy Wicks (D-Oakland) — would also require an eligible digital journalism provider to spend at least 70% of funds received on news journalists and support staff ...

Court in Sofia orders three ISPs to block access to The Pirate Bay and Zamunda

A City Court in Sofia ruled on 31 May 2023 that three ISPs in Bulgaria have to block access to BitTorrent site The Pirate Bay, local site Zamunda and all subsequent mirror sites, sub-domains and proxy sites.

British music industry reacts positively to the IPO-coordinated agreement introducing a voluntary pan-industry code on metadata

The representatives from the various segments of the British music sector have welcomed the Metadata Agreement announced on May 31 by the Intellectual property Office.
