European Commissioner Thierry Breton rolls out the next steps for EU’s legislation applied to digital platforms

Thierry Breton, the European Commissioner for Internal Market (pictured, above), has warned digital platforms that by September 2023, new EU legislation — the Digital Services Act (DSA) and the Digital Markets Act (DMA) — will come into force and that social networks, marketplaces and search engines will have to respect the new legislation to operate within the EU.

EU adopts the Artificial Intelligence Act

The Council of Europe has approved the AI Act, a legislation aimed at harmonising rules on artificial intelligence in the Union. All 27 EU members have approved on May 21 the compromised text presented by the Belgian Presidency. A minimum of 15 countries representing 65% of the EU's population was necessary to get the text through.

The legislation — which sets a precedent in the world — relies on a "risk-based" approach. The Council said the Act "can set a global standard for AI regulation."...

NMPA calls for Congress to modify section 115 of the Copyright Act to allow publishers to ‘operate in a free market’
