The MLC and the NMPA are all in against Spotify over the platform’s new royalty calculation scheme tied to bundles

The past few weeks have been testing for Spotify's lawyers. The streaming service has been served a lawsuit by The MLC over alleged unpaid royalties linked to Spotify's new bundles including audiobooks.

In addition, the National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) has sent a cease-and-desist letter to Spotify on May 15 requesting that the streaming service removes unlicensed music files that allegedly infringe upon its members’ copyrights.

EU adopts the Artificial Intelligence Act

The Council of Europe has approved the AI Act, a legislation aimed at harmonising rules on artificial intelligence in the Union. All 27 EU members have approved on May 21 the compromised text presented by the Belgian Presidency. A minimum of 15 countries representing 65% of the EU's population was necessary to get the text through.
