South Africa’s creatives protest against the broad exceptions in the Copyright Bill

The Cultural and Creative Industries Federation of South Africa (CCIFSA) has organised and taken part in a peaceful march to the Gauteng Legislature in Johannesburg on August 25 to raise awareness on what is perceived as too many copyright exceptions in the Copyright Amendment Bill, which is designed to overhaul the country's copyright framework.

Europe’s AI Act caught between creators’ desire to prioritise transparency and tech companies calling for light legislation

As the European Union is preparing to adopt new legislation on artificial intelligence contained in the AI Act, tech companies and organisations representing the tech sector and the creative community continue to push for two different visions on how AI should be regulated in the EU.

Tech companies are calling for light regulation in order not to hamper the development of AI in the region. Creators focus on transparency and remuneration of works used to train AI systems.

European Parliament’s Culture Committee adopts a report calling for ‘a fair and sustainable ecosystem for music streaming’

Organisations representing creators have welcomed the adoption by the European Parliament's Culture and Education Committee (CULT ) on November 28 of the report on “Cultural diversity and the conditions for authors in the European music streaming market” with with a majority of 23 votes in favor, 3 against and one abstention. The report calls for “a fair and sustainable ecosystem for music streaming in the Union”.
