US recorded music revenues at an all-time high of $8.4 billion, up 9.3% year-on-year

Total recorded music revenues in the US for the first half of 2023 grew 9.3% at estimated retail value, reaching an all-time first half high of $8.4 billion, according to statistics released by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). This is also the ninth consecutive year of growth.

IFPI launches four new charts covering Egypt, Saudi Arabia, UAE and North Africa

Recorded music trade organisation the IFPI has launched four new streaming-based covering countries across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. In each country it will be the first time ever that official rankings are being made available.

In addition to the Official MENA regional chart, the four new charts will be — the Official Egypt Chart, Official Saudi Arabia Chart, Official UAE Chart, and Official North Africa Chart (which covers Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia).

Hollywood writers prepare to return to work as WGA Boards unanimously votes in favour of the agreement with the studios

The Writers' Guild of America's Negotiating Committee, the WGA West Board and WGA East Council all voted unanimously to recommend to their members to endorse the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), which represent the Hollywood studios as well as Netflix and Amazon.

Audoo names Utopia Music’s Melanie Johnson as Chief Commercial Officer

London-based music and data technology company Audoo has appointed Melanie Johnson as Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). Based in London, she reports to CEO Ryan Edwards. She succeeds Will Mills as CCO.
