Youngsuk ‘YS’ Chi elected Chair of the Board of the Association of American Publishers

The Directors of the Association of American Publishers (APA) have elected Youngsuk ‘YS’ Chi as Chair of the Board of the organisation for the 2024-2025 term. Julia Reidhead, Chairman and President of W. W. Norton and Company, will remain a Board officer as she transitions from Chair to Immediate Past Chair.

Universal Music Group takes a majority stake in Nigeria’s label Mavin Global

Universal Music Group (UMG) has taken a majority share in Mavin Global, an independent music company from Nigeria. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The deal, which remains subject to regulatory approval, is expected to close by the end of Q3 2024. The Lagos, Nigeria-based label was founded in 2012 by artist, producer, music executive and entrepreneur Michael Collins Ajereh (aka Don Jazzy), and many of the continent's Afrobeats artists.

Disney and Reliance sign agreement to merge their media operations in India

The Walt Disney Co. and Reliance Industries Ltd. will be merging their media operations in India. The two companies have signed a binding agreement, which will see Reliance's media unit and its affiliates will own at least 61% of the combined entity, according to a Bloomberg report.
