Major labels sue Verizon for contributory and vicarious copyright infringement

The three major companies — Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group — have filed a lawsuit with the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York accusing telecom operator Verizon of allowing "tens of thousands of its subscribers" to engage in massive copyright infringement.

GEMA gets vindication from German court in infringement case against OpenAI over the use of lyrics to train chatbot ChatGPT

The 42nd Civil Chamber of the Regional Court in Munich found in favour of German music rights society GEMA in a copyright infringement case against OpenAI, which was accused of using copyrighted lyrics to train its chatbot ChatGPT without a license. OpenAI plans to appeal the ruling.
GEMA brough the case against U.S. provider of AI services OpenAI a year ago. GEMA wanted the court to “clarify AI providers‘ remuneration obligations in Europe” and enforce its members’ rights.

US court rejects OpenAI’s motion to strike in infringement case brought by authors

The US District Court for the Southern District of New York has denied a motion to strike filed by OpenAI in the copyright infringement Class Action Complaint brought by authors including David Baldacci, Ta-Nehisi Coates, John Grisham, George R.R.
