Former BMI VP of Writer/Publisher Relations Roger Sovine has died aged 82

Roger Sovine, who served for many years several decades at US music rights society BMI in Nashville, has died December 23, 2025 at the age of 82. Born in West Virginia, he moved with his family to Nashville in 1955 where his father Woodrow Wilson “Red” Sovine (1917-1980) recorded a series of successful songs, including 'Giddyup Go' in 1965. Roger Sovine started to make a name for himself as a songwriter and performer in the late 60s, while holding a stint of jobs at local music publishing houses...

Australia’s Copyright Tribunal increases the rate for recordings paid by radio stations from 0.40% to 0.55% of gross revenue

Australia's Copyright Tribunal has set a new rate for the use of sound recordings by commercial radio stations by increasing the current rate from 0.40% to 0.55% of gross industry revenue, a 38% rise. The measure is expected to bring in an additional A$1.5 million in neighbouring rights to rights holders. The new rate will be backdated to July 1, 2023. SCPP collected €85.5m in neighbouring rights in 2025, down 3.2% compared to 2024

France's neighbouring rights society SCPP has disclosed that provisional collections for 2025 reached €85.5 million, down 3.2% compared to 2024, with distributions to rights holders of €70.8m, similar to 2024's amount.
