The USA's two leading performance rights organisations ASCAP and BMI alongside Canada's SOCAN have adopted policies under which musical compositions partially generated using artificial intelligence (AI) tools can now be registered directly with the individual societies. Richard Burgess named Chair of the Board of UK neighbouring rights society PPL

British neighbouring rights society PPL has appointed Richard James Burgess as its new Chair, succeeding John Smith, effective January 5, 2026.
