Universal Music Group has notified the European Commission of the proposed acquisition of Downtown Music Holdings

Universal Music Group (UMG) has formally notified the European Commission on June 16 of its plans to acquire Downtown Music Holdings for $775 million, opening a window for an assessment of the transaction under the EU Merger Regulation (EUMR).
The Commission now has until July 22 to accept the deal or move into a full investigation into the impact of the acquisition. UMG said it plans to close the deal in the second half of 2025, which might not be achieved if the Commission launches a full prob...

Dutch anti-piracy outfit BREIN granted trusted flagger status

Dutch anti-piracy organisation BREIN has been granted the status of trusted flagger by the Dutch digital services coordinator (ACM), as of 29 September 2025.
Trusted flaggers are organisations recognised by the ACM that are deemed reliable to detect, identify and report illegal content to online platforms, such as hosting providers, social media and online marketplaces. These parties are obliged to treat reports from trusted flaggers as a priority.
