France’s indie labels warn of the ‘destructive consequences’ of a possible takeover of Believe by Warner Music Group

French labels and distributors of regrouped within trade organisation UPFI have "alerted the public authorities of the destructive consequences" of a possible takeover by Warner Music Group of the French music company Believe. Believe is currently the target of a hostile bid recently initiated by the major company. Sony Music Group France has acquired Spookland, the independent recording and publishing company founded in 2012 by songwriter, producer and performer Maxim Nucci (a.k.a. Sound Royalties provided $135 million in funded contracts to creators in 2025

US music financing company Sound Royalties has disclosed that it has distributed directly to creators a record $135 million in funded contracts in 2025. Recipients of Sound Royalties funding in 2025 included singer-songwriter Tayla Parx, and music producer Jon Gilbert, who has worked with artists such as Foster The People, Kurt Vile, and Mt. Joy. The company also delivered a "substantial" new round of funding for Dominican rapper El Alfa, along with funding for numerous other creatives.
