UMG’s Virgin Music Group strengthens its presence in China and India with the acquisition of Ed Peto’s Outdustry

Virgin Music Group, the Universal Music Group division providing distribution and services for the independent sector, has acquired Beijing-based Outdustry, the artist and label services and rights management business founded by Ed Peto and focused on China, India and other markets. Australia plans mandatory content obligations for video streaming services

Australia is joining the cohort of countries with a mandatory content obligation on streaming services. The Labour Government will introduce in Parliament in the coming weeks legislation that will require video streaming with more than one million Australian subscribers to invest at least 10% of their total expenditure for Australia – or 7.5% of their revenue – on new local drama, children’s, documentary, arts and educational programmes.

Sony Music Australia and New Zealand Chair & CEO Vanessa Picken steps down

Vanessa Picken, who served as Chair and CEO of Sony Music Australia and New Zealand for the past three years, is stepping down. No replacement has been announced by parent company Sony Music Entertainment.
