French organisations from the creative sector urge France to stick to the principles of the AI Act protecting copyright

Ahead of the February 2 vote by European Union member states on the proposed legislation AI Act, 71 French organisations from all cultural industries — music, AV, literary and drama — have urged France for signal a "clear support for copyright and neighbouring rights."

Ursula von der Leyen re-elected European Commission President for a five-year term

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was elected for a second term on July 18 by the European Parliament n a secret ballot. The outgoing President received 401 votes in her favour, 41 more than the majority of 360 votes, 284 against and 22 blank or invalid votes.

This will be von der Leyen’s second term as Commission President. She was first elected by MEPs in July 2019. She previously served as Defence Minister in Germany.

Drew Olsen named Vice-Chair and CEO of the Copyright Board of Canada

Canada's Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry François-Philippe Champagne has appointed Drew Olsen as Vice-Chair and Chief Executive Officer of the Copyright Board of Canada, for a five-year term.

In this role, effective from August 26, Olsen will lead the work of the Board as well as supervise and direct Board staff. Olsen is currently Associate Director General of the Audiovisual Branch at Canadian Heritage.
