European Commission temporarily pauses the investigation into UMG’s proposed acquisition of Downtown Music Holdings

The European Commission's competition division has temporarily paused on September 2 the investigation into the proposed $775 million acquisition of Downtown Music Holdings by Universal Music Group.
The delay was necessary in order to receive the requested information into the deal that, apparently neither UMG, nor opposing parties such as IMPALA had provided.

The European Composer and Songwriter Alliance (ECSA) has expressed "concern" over the lack of transparency of the multiple recent licensing deals between the three major companies and AI platforms Udio, Suno and KLAY and called for a remuneration model that would involve "parity between publishing and master rights."

‘Fully operational’ US Copyright Office resumes activity as government reopens

The US Copyright Office has announced on November 14 that it is back to being "fully operational" following the reopening of the federal government.
