TikTok and APRA AMCOS agree to a multi-year licensing deal covering repertoire from Australia and New Zealand

TikTok and the Australasian Performing Right Association and Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society (APRA AMCOS) have signed a multi-year music licensing deal, which also covers the use of music by TikTok retroactively.

British neighbouring rights society PPL collected £252.8 million in 2021, up 12%

British neighbouring rights society PPL has collected revenues of £252.8 million (€299.7m) in 2021, a 12% increase (or £27.1 million) over 2020, but still £20m short from 2019’s record £271.8m.

The London-based society reported that all three revenue streams — International, Broadcast and online, and Public performance and dubbing — “grew year-on-year, with International and Broadcast and online licensing revenues delivering record annual amounts.”

SUISA Digital slaps Snapchat with a copyright infringement lawsuit in Hamburg

SUISA Digital — a Liechtenstein-based subsidiary of Swiss rights society SUISA — is suing short format platform Snapchat for copyright infringement.

SUISA said Snapchat "refuses" to pay authors and publishers for music represented by the music licensing organisation and used in videos on the Snapchat platform. As a result, SUISA Digital filed a lawsuit against Snapchat parent company Snap Inc. for copyright infringement in the Hamburg District Court.
