Merlin and Spotify renew and expand their multi-year licensing agreement

Spotify and independent labels' digital licensing society Merlin have renewed and expanded their global, multi-year licensing partnership.
"This agreement reinforces the vital role of independent music on Spotify and provides Merlin members continued access to a platform that reaches fans worldwide," said the organisations in a joint press release. Spotify announced leadership changes at the top of the music streaming service, with co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer Daniel Ek becoming the music streaming service's Executive Chairman.
In parallel, Gustav Söderström, co-President and Chief Product and Technology Officer, and Alex Norström, co-President and Chief Business Officer, have been elevated to co-Chief Executive Officers. These changes will all be effective January 1, 2026.
