The Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit vacated a judgment of the Southern District of New York which granted US rights society BMI a 138% increase in royalty rates for performance rights paid by the live sector. The Calcutta High Court has found in favour of the Indian Performing Right Society (IPRS) by dismissing telecom provider Vodafone Idea's appeal of a lower court decision which ruled that a separate license from IPRS is required for underlying music and lyrics from recordings when they are communicated to the public.
