Large video-on-demand services in the UK are now regulated by OFCOM

Major streaming services with over 500,000 users in the UK are now under regulation by OFCOM, as the UK's Media Act of 2024 comes into force. The oversight from the regulator will apply to services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and public service broadcaster's VoD services like ITVX and Channel 4. Daren Tang, who served as Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) since 2020, has been confirmed for a second six-year term by WIPO's 194 members during the General Assembly of the Geneva-based organisation. Tang was chosen by WIPO’s 83-member Coordination Committee in February 2026 as the next DG against Johanny Stanley Joseph from the Republic of Haiti. Boutique music rights company MusicBird has acquired the master royalty income from Scottish musician Dougie Thomson, bassist of British band Supertramp.
