California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed into law The Decriminalizing Artistic Expression ACT, which restricts the use of lyrics — in particular rap lyrics — as evidence in the court in California. The bill was unanimously approved in August by the California Senate and Assembly.

Copyright registrations in China in 2023 were up 40.5% year-on-year to 8.92 million

The number of copyright registrations for works in visual arts, photography, video, music, modeling, opera and architecture in China reached 8.92 million in 2023, up 40.46% year-on-year, according to data from the National Copyright Administration (NCA) disclosed by news agency Xinhua.

Thai police closes torrent site Siambit.me

The Royal Thai Police’s Economic Crimes Department (ECD) has shut down the site Siambit.me, believed to be the largest torrent tracker site in Thailand. The action was supported by global anti-piracy organisation the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE).
